Pressure is mounting on Germany’s international Mario Gomez. With the list of injured players increasing by the week, the Bayern Munich player, who has been branded a disappointment since his transfer to the German giants in 2009, is likely to be given the chance to prove his goalscoring skills against Hannover today.

Gomez, who has not found the net since the beginning of the new season and has so far only played one Bundesliga game in full, will take on the role as the main striker as his team-mates Ivica Olic and Miroslav Klose both struggle with injuries.

"I am hopeful that I will be playing and that I will finally score a goal again in the Bundesliga too." said the 25-year-old last Tuesday after helping the Nationalmannschaft with a goal in their victory against Kazakhstan.

With the number of available regular players dwindling and stars such as Arjen Robben, Mark van Bommel, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Franck Ribery and Diego Contento now all missing due to injury, coach Louis van Gaal has a mammoth task ahead of him to push the Bavarian giants towards the upper half of the Bundesliga table.

With only eight points after seven games, Bayern are currently in 12th place in the Bundesliga table.
