New Liverpool owner John Henry has said that he understands the concerns of some supporters about a new group of Americans coming in to own the club. The Reds completed the sale of the club to New England Sports Ventures yesterday, finally ousting the unpopular regime of Tom Hicks and George Gillett after almost a week of legal battles.

Asked by Liverpool’s official site whether he understood the fears of some fans about more US owners, Henry replied: "I can, I absolutely can.

"It was a tough three years [for Liverpool] and there were a lot of expectations created. That’s one thing I’m going to try not to do, not to create a lot of expectations. I’m going to hopefully be able to make promises I can deliver, and when I say I, I mean us, New England Sports Ventures. We have a strong organisation, very strong, financially and otherwise with some terrific strategic thinkers, and we’re going to be attacking this head on."

Liverpool fans will have to wait for a matchday glimpse of their new owners however, as Henry confirmed he plans his first Reds game to be at Anfield.
