Inter coach Rafael Benitez has declared himself happy with the win against Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League last night. The Nerazzurri had been 4-0 up at half time, having also seen Spurs’ goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes sent off for the visitors for a foul on Jonathan Biabiany. Indeed, as the first 45 minutes ended, Inter looked like routing the Premier League side.

However, the expected flurry of further goals never arrived, and it was Spurs, through Gareth Bale, who struck back three times, two of the Welshman’s goals coming in the last few minutes of the game. Spurs’ comeback and Bale’s hat-trick though, was not enough to dampen Benitez’s pleasure at victory.

"I was happy with the points. It is the most important [to get the points]. The team played well, okay, Gareth Bale, we knew he was fast. The return match will be difficult and we have seen the power of this team", said Benitez.

Inter midfielder Coutinho also chipped in, saying at 4-0, he believed the match was over: "At 4-0, we thought that the game was easy, and we cannot think that way. But we won, that’s the most important.
