Barcelona have emerged as favourites to sign PSV Eindhoven star Ibrahim Afellay after the Camp Nou club took a close interest in the 24-year-old. Afellay’s contract with the Dutch side is expiring and he has made no secret of the fact he will not sign a new deal and wants to try his luck abroad.

The prospect of signing Afellay on a free transfer has piqued the interest of the Spanish giants and they are now sounding out the Dutchman’s representatives to see exactly what terms he would be looking for to head to Barcelona.

Money is tight at the Camp Nou at present and that is surely a factor behind Barcelona’s move for Afellay. However, PSV do want to realise some value for the player and will seek to sell Afellay in the winter transfer window. A price of some €2M has been mooted and Inter are thought to be seriously considering paying this amount.

The ball though is in Afellay’s court and, should he decide a switch to Barcelona would represent his dream move, the Dutchman can simply sit tight and wait until the summer.
