Preparing for the possible departure of Diego Forlan in January or next summer, Atletico Madrid are well on the way to identifying replacements for the Uruguayan hitman. One name on the Spanish side’s list is Lisandro Lopez.

The 27-year-old is currently plying his trade in France with Lyon, who have endured a dismal start to the new campaign. Should the Ligue 1 side fail to secure a Champions League spot for next season, or look to rebuild their side in the winter, Lopez could well become available at the right price – Lyon paid €24M one year ago for the Argentine.

Having played for FC Porto and impressed, Atletico believe Lopez could quickly adapt to La Liga and at 27 would be four years younger than Forlan.
