Real Madrid have confirmed that Zinedine Zidane will take up a new role acting as a link between the players and the club’s management.

The Frenchman, who has been a long time advisor to current president Florentino Perez, was keen to become more involved with Los Blancos and there were even rumours he would soon be seen on the bench alongside Jose Mourinho. This has been dismissed though by general manager Jorge Valdano.

"He will not sit on the bench, but will help with Mourinho’s relationship with the team", said Valdano. "Not in a technical aspect, but by bringing his experience and being close to the coach and the players."

Zidane will also be a regular fixture at most games confirmed Valdano, saying that the Frenchman will be "at all matches in the Champions League and sometimes in the championship."
