A race is expected to soon commence for the signature of Manchester City striker Roque Santa Cruz. The Paraguayan has turned out just once for the Eastlands club this season and was heavily linked with a move to Lazio before the transfer window shut. And Lazio remain confirmed fans of the 29-year-old, stating they will consider trying again in January.

However, Lazio will face competition for Santa Cruz’s signature from several clubs, one being Fulham, bossed by the manager who took the striker to Eastlands in the first place, Mark Hughes.

"I’m interested in players of the quality of Roque", said Hughes, obviously alerted by City coach Roberto Mancini’s earlier comments that, "I hope for him that he can go to play for another team, because he deserves this."

Santa Cruz has gone on record as stating that he would like to play in La Liga before he hangs up his boots, so any approach from a Spanish side will obviously be welcomed by the striker.
