Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed he is not surprised by the way Javier Hernandez has hit the ground running in the Premier League. Ferguson moved quickly before the World Cup to snap up the 22-year-old to avoid losing him, but it was still assumed the Mexican would just be eased in to first team action this season, rather than playing the central role he has in recent weeks.
"We’re not surprised [by how quickly Hernandez has adapted] – we identified a lot about him before we signed him", Ferguson told MUTV. "We did a lot of work on him. Seeing him in pre-season and in training, we thought he’d do well and he has."
However, Ferguson did admit that there were always concerns bringing a youngster to Manchester from a country as far away as Mexico.
"You never know with a young boy coming from Mexico because it’s a different culture. But he speaks the language and that’s important. His winning goal on Tuesday [against Wolves in the League Cup] demonstrated again that he’s a very good finisher."
