Joe Cole is a doubt for Liverpool’s meeting next weekend with Chelsea after picking up a hamstring injury against Bolton Wanderers. The England star had to be subbed off at the Reebok Stadium, with David N’Gog coming on to take his place.

Boss Roy Hodgson explained that he does not really know the extent of Cole’s hamstring problem, but the time such injuries take to heal means Cole could well miss the Chelsea game.

"Joe has a slight hamstring injury, so will have a scan tomorrow", Hodgson told the club’s official site.

"Hopefully he will be ok, but I can’t say how long he will be out until we get the results of the scan. Often these muscle injuries always seem to take ten days to two weeks, but I know Joe will be keen to be fit for Chelsea next weekend. We’ll have to wait and see."
