Barcelona are kicking themselves for not taking the advice of John Toshack over Gareth Bale. The former Welsh boss, who is respected throughout Spanish football following spells with Real Sociedad, Real Madrid and Real Murcia, told Txiki Begiristain, sporting director under previous president Joan Laporta, to sign Bale three years ago.
"I spoke with Txiki Begiristain and said we had a very interesting young player whose progress was followed with great interest", Toshack told TV show Esports Cope.
Tottenham Hotspur pounced before Barcelona though and the rest is history. However, Toshack feels that the Camp Nou side should not give up on Bale and a move to Barcelona would be beneficial for both sides.
"Barca is the best and Bale is the best", said Toshack. "If Leo Messi is awesome in short spaces, Gareth is in long [ones]. He is a very fast player."
