Current France boss Laurent Blanc has admitted he may well be interested in succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson as Manchester United manager. The Frenchman, who shot to prominence in the dugout by leading Bordeaux to the Ligue 1 title, believes that if Ferguson helps to choose his successor he might have a good chance.

"Sir Alex is the cornerstone of Manchester United, he personifies the club, he has this passion", said Blanc.

Asked whether he would be interested in succeeding the Scot, Blanc gave a clear yes: "Take over? Why not? It would be a very interesting challenge, very tough, but possible if he [Ferguson] presided over the process of succession."

Blanc was taken to Old Trafford by Ferguson for a short spell in 2000 and ended his playing career with the Premier League side.
