Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has vowed the club will put derby frustration behind them when they play Aston Villa this weekend. United could only manage a 0-0 draw against Manchester City in midweek, despite enjoying much possession at the City of Manchester Stadium.

The performance pleased Carrick, but not the result: "So, we’re pleased with our performance, but I’m frustrated we didn’t win. We were certainly the team pushing to win the game. We always believe we can create a chance late in the game, but we didn’t get a clear-cut one", the midfielder told MUTV.

Now United face a tough trip to Villa Park, where new boss Gerard Houllier has made the Midlands outfit a tough team to score against. Nevertheless, Carrick is backing his side to continue to get stronger.

"We believe we will become stronger as the season goes on."
