Lyon centre back Cris has pledged that the Ligue 1 giants will improve this season and even raised the prospect of winning the league; he also pinpointed the fact that some members of the current squad have not lifted the title as part of the reason for their slide. The Brazilian feels the time for excuses is running out, and Lyon need to start to deliver the goods.

"We’re a team. We need to deliver in the big games when we know that our supporters are there", said Cris. Lyon meet Nice at home in Ligue 1 this evening and currently find themselves level on points with a side more used to battling relegation than anything else. In 11th place after 12 games, Lyon must improve, and quickly.

"I intended [to win] the title", said Cris when questioned about what his objective for this season was. "All players who have earned it know what it represents, to be champion. In our current team, few know what it is. Forget the recent past, aim for the title. We will celebrate with the fans."

Whether it is realistic for Lyon to aim for the title after their dreadful start, remains to be seen.
