Following a home draw against lowly Larissa at the weekend, Panathinaikos have parted company with coach Nikos Nioplias. The result left the Greens level on points with bitter rivals Olympiacos, but having played one game more.

"We would like to thank Mr Nioplias for his contribution to last season’s league and cup double and we wish him all the best for his career", read a statement from Panathinaikos.

Nioplias has long been under pressure in Athens following the arrival of a number of big names, such as Jean-Alain Boumsong and Sidney Govou, and subsequent poor performances. In Europe the Greek side have been especially disappointing, sitting bottom of their Champions League group following two bore 0-0 draws with Rubin Kazan.
