AC Milan are ready to rival Liverpool for the signature of Rennes full back Rod Fanni. The 28-year-old is building up a list of admirers and Rennes are bracing themselves for a raft of enquiries in January.

Liverpool are believed to be looking at Fanni as a possible replacement for Glen Johnson. The England right back was recently criticised by Reds boss Roy Hodgson and should be heading to the exit door when the winter transfer window opens, provided of course Liverpool’s valuation of the player is met. Juventus are the keenest on Johnson, having heeded the words of England coach Fabio Capello, who dubbed the player one of the world’s best full backs.

Fanni has been at Rennes since 2007 and played all his club football in his native France. The right back has made the breakthrough to the senior France national team, though has yet to force his way into the starting eleven. A move to either the Premier League or Serie A could help to push his case. The defender is under contract with Rennes until 2012.
