Argentine legend Diego Maradona has backed Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho to conquer Spanish football and win the Champions League a third time. Maradona, who bossed Argentina at last summer’s World Cup, was attending training at Real Madrid when he made his observations.

Maradona stated he thinks Mourinho "will bring a European title and the championship" to Real Madrid, but also added that "we must give Mourinho time to make the players understand what he wants."

And the Argentine coach continued to lavish praise on the Portuguese: "Look, when he arrived at Inter he helped to win the European Cup after about 50 years of famine. If we trust him, I am convinced he will win titles for Real in a short space of time."

Maradona has been out of work since leaving his job as Argentina coach, but has not been slow to say that he would welcome a return to the game. The former Barcelona and Napoli player was linked with jobs in charge of Aston Villa and Portugal in recent months and remains keen to find a new coaching position.
