Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier could be preparing to swoop for another veteran player following his signing of the 37-year-old Robert Pires. According to reports from France, Houllier is ready to snap up former Lyon midfielder Juninho, who is now 35 and currently plays in Qatar with Al-Gharafa.

RMC have reported that Houllier thinks Juninho would be a great addition to the Villa squad and will place a six-month contract in front of the Brazilian. Juninho has great experience, having turned out with Lyon between 2001 and 2009, and played under Houllier at the Ligue 1 giants.

With a deadly free kick and eye for a pass which have not suffered with age, the Brazilian could be a fine addition to Houllier’s Villa, although the arrival of yet another player in his mid-30s will raise eyebrows amongst the club’s support.
