Manchester United are moving closer to signing Danish goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard from Norwegian side Aalesunds FK, and the Scot expects the 26-year-old to arrive within the next few weeks.

Lindegaard, who moved to Norway after failing to make much of an impression in Danish football, has seen his career really take off at Aalesunds and soon attracted the attention of United’s goalkeeping coach Eric Steele.

"It is not completed at the moment", Ferguson said of the proposed transfer, "but there has not been a hiccup either. It will probably happen in the next two or three weeks."

Ferguson, who expects to see Edwin van der Saar retire at the end of the current season, is keen to see if he can unearth a goalkeeping gem from Scandinavian football, in much the same way he did with Peter Schmeichel.
