Following their 5-0 defeat to Barcelona on Monday night, talk is intensifying that Real Madrid will attempt to strengthen their midfield in the January transfer window. While they possess an array of attacking stars, the feeling is that the addition of another defensive midfielder would not harm their cause. And the name circulating is Felipe Melo.

The Brazilian is currently with Juventus in Serie A, yet has been continually linked with a move away from Turin. While the Old Lady are keen to keep hold of Melo, it has been suggested that a large offer in January could prove irresistible.

Juventus would be looking for a fee in the region of €30M for Melo, who remains under contract with the Serie A giants until 2014. For Real Madrid, Melo could offer an extra defensive midfield option, of the type they could well have used in the Camp Nou.
