Marseille president Jean-Claude Dassier has said that the French champions are not in a position to conclude the signing of Rennes full back Rod Fanni in the January transfer window and there remain differences between the two clubs.

The Ligue 1 side are looking to add a right sided defender in the winter window and have also considered Sunderland’s Marcos Angeleri. However, Fanni’s experience of French football and undoubted potential have made him the club’s number one target.

"There is no agreement, the positions are far apart, our position is considered inadequate and we believe their demands are excessive", said Dassier, also adding that Rennes want "substantially more" than €3.5M. Marseille’s president is standing firm however, commenting that "we cannot afford to pay out that much money".
