Reports suggest that Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain is reluctant to undergo surgery on a slipped disc in his back. The Argentine forward had been assumed to need the procedure after Los Blancos medical officers confirmed that they felt it was the best way to cure his ills.

Real Madrid did confirm they will seek a second medical opinion, and according to L’Equipe, Higuain is desperately hoping he can avoid an operation, which would mean a minimum of two months on the sidelines.

Yesterday, Higuain travelled to see a specialist in Barcelona and will now wait for the verdict. If he can avoid surgery and return to action much sooner, that will give Real Madrid, still recovering from their El Clasico loss, a boost.
