Karim Benzema produced a fantastic performance last night against Auxerre in the Champions League, winning 4-0, working hard to convince the Real Madrid faithful that his career at the Bernabeu will be a fruitful one. Los Blancos were already through to the next stage of the Champions League, but the meeting with Auxerre allowed them to once again stamp their authority on the group.

And Benzema was at the heart of that, grabbing a hat-trick with goals in the 11th, 72nd and 88th minutes. Cristiano Ronaldo bagged another in the 50th minute, routing the Ligue 1 side.

Benzema explained afterwards that "every day I feel better and better, and it shows on the pitch." The Frenchman also said that he "enjoyed myself during the match and overall the team produced a good performance."

With Real Madrid repeatedly linked with a move for another striker in January in the absence of the injured Gonzalo Higuain, Benzema will have to continue to show his best to make sure he keeps his place in the team.
