Liverpool have been linked with a move for Basel’s young left winger Valentin Stocker. The 21-year-old is highly rated in the Alpine country and is already established as a member of the senior Swiss squad.

Reds boss Roy Hodgson has numerous contacts within the Swiss game, having previously coached the country’s national team as well as club sides Neuchatel Xamax and Grasshopper. Now it seems Hodgson’s network has alerted him to Stocker.

Basel wish to keep hold of their youth product, but are well aware they could receive an offer they may not be able to refuse in the winter transfer window. A fee of about €6M has been mooted as enough to ensure Stocker heads to Anfield.
