Manchester United have received a boost with the news that striker Michael Owen is ready to return to action for their festive fixtures. Owen was ruled out with a hamstring injury at the beginning of October, but now the former Liverpool forward has declared himself fit and ready to return.

"I’m fit and I’ve been in full training for three and a half weeks", said Owen to Manchester United’s official website. "The hard bit now is getting back into the side, trying to force my way back into the squad. That’s not easy at Manchester United."

Owen will hope that opportunities come his way during the packed festive period of games. United are due to face Sunderland on Boxing Day, then travel to Birmingham on 28th December, before a New Year’s Day trip to West Brom.
