Bayer Leverkusen’s sporting director Rudi Voller has added fuel to the fires linking goalkeeper Rene Adler with a move to Manchester United by admitting that if the Premier League giants came calling there is very little the Bundesliga side could do.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has already gone on record as stating he is determined not to be caught out by Edwin van der Sar’s retirement at the end of the season and will act swiftly to ensure a world-class keeper settles in between the sticks at Old Trafford during the summer. This has given rise to any number of names, one of which is Leverkusen’s impressive Rene Adler.

"We want to offer him a new contract", Voller is quoted as saying, "but if you get a club like Manchester United after him then you can do nothing."

The 25-year-old is a product of Leverkusen’s youth system and has made over 120 appearances for the Bundesliga side. Adler has also earned nine senior Germany caps.
