Barcelona and Real Madrid look set to do battle for the latest talented youngster to emerge from the Canary Islands. Jonathan Viera plays for Gran Canaria team UD Las Palmas and has turned heads in the Segunda Division with a series of fine displays.

The 21-year-old, who is an attacking midfielder, has been watched by scouts from both Barcelona and Real Madrid, with Las Palmas well aware they have a gem on their hands.

It is believed that the Camp Nou giants may be slightly ahead in the race to sign Viera as the youngster does not wish to take a step down from the Segunda Division, the level at which he currently plays.

A move to Real Madrid would see Viera placed in the club’s Castilla team, who play below the Spanish second tier. However, a switch to Barcelona would mean turning out for Barcelona B, who currently play in the Segunda Division.
