Spain coach Vicente del Bosque has given his backing to a possible Real Madrid move for Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente.

The Basque hitman, who is a regular part of Del Bosque’s World Cup winning side, has repeatedly been linked with moves to Barcelona and Real Madrid this season, but Athletic Bilbao will not let the player go for less than his buyout clause of €36M.

"Llorente? He would be good for Real Madrid", said Del Bosque, himself a former Real Madrid manager. "He is a player who can do well in any team in the world. For Real, Fernando would be a great deal."

Llorente for his part however, has said he is happy to remain with Athletic Bilbao if no side can come to an agreement to sign him.

"I have three years left on this contract with Athletic", said Llorente, "and unless this club wants to sell me, I’m sure I’ll stay here."
