Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted he would rather loan striker Federico Macheda within the Premier League, though he admits the player has Serie A on his mind.

Macheda is in demand in Italy, with former club Lazio, along with Parma, Fiorentina and Genoa all thinking of taking the United man on loan for the rest of the season. The striker has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford, and Ferguson is keen for him to get some games under his belt.

However, Aston Villa and Wigan Athletic have emerged as possible options for Macheda too, and Ferguson readily admits he would be happier to see the Italian stay in the Premier League.

"If a club is able to convince the player and myself then we will consider their offer", said the United boss. "The player thinks of Serie A, but I hope he remains in the Premier League."
