Argentine hitman Sergio Aguero has signalled his intention to stay at Atletico Madrid by penning a new deal with the club until 2014.

Aguero’s previous contract was due to expire in 2012, but he has now extended that by two years. The Argentine has appeared in 214 games for the Madrid-based side over five years, scoring 88 goals, 61 of them in La Liga.

Atletico Madrid have previously fought off interest in Aguero from a number of sides in recent years, most notably Chelsea, who at times felt close to snaring the impressive striker.

The agreement for Atletico is another vital player renewal after those of Diego Forlan, Paulo Assuncao, Tomas Ujfalusi, Luis Perea and Jose Antonio Reyes in recent months.
