Flamengo are keen to protect their investment in Ronaldinho and have taken steps to discourage a potential return to Europe for the player. Having moved from AC Milan for a fee of around €3.5M, the Brazilian club are reported to have inserted a buyout clause in Ronaldinho’s contract for a huge €182M.

While there is no suggestion that the 2005 Ballon d’Or winner could be on the lookout for a return to European football so soon after landing back in his homeland, Flamengo want to ensure that should a European club try to tempt the former Milan star, they will be in the driving seat.

Ronaldinho is hoping that appearing regularly in the Brazilian league will help him to break back into the Brazil national team, as he still holds the dream of playing in the 2014 World Cup on home soil.
