Valencia have been given a boost by Juan Mata’s decision to extend his contract with the club by two years.

The highly rated winger, who helped Spain to win the World Cup last summer, has been repeatedly mentioned as a target for a number of sides, but it appears the 22-year-old continues to see his future with Los Che.

Mata’s new contract with Valencia will run until 2014 and the buyout clause has been set at a hefty €60M. For Los Che, Mata’s decision to stay loyal to the club he has turned out for since 2007, when he joined from Real Madrid’s B team, will come as welcome news.

Valencia are coping with the summer departures of David Villa and David Silva well and look a good bet to once again claim a Champions League spot this season.
