Diego Maradona has hailed the decision to give Lionel Messi the Ballon d’Or, but also used the opportunity to have a dig at his old rival Pele.
The Argentine is engaged in an eternal struggle with Pele for the title of the world’s greatest ever footballer, and Maradona has always been convinced that it is a race he clearly should win.
"When I’m compared to Messi", said Maradona, "the positive thing is leaving out Pele."
