Atletico Madrid midfielder Tiago has announced his decision to retire from international football with Portugal. The 29-year-old has picked up 58 caps with his national side, but feels now is the right time to call it a day and focus on his club football.

"The time has come to put an end to this fantastic experience", said Tiago in a letter to the Portuguese FA, explaining the decision was "for personal reasons and to allow the new faces of Portuguese football to find their place."

Tiago has been much travelled since he left Benfica in 2004, playing for Chelsea, Lyon, Juventus and now enjoying an extended loan deal at Atletico Madrid.
