Ajax are making contingency plans in the event that Luis Suarez leaves the Dutch club and could move for either Bas Dost, Eidur Gudjohnsen or Ryan Babel.

Suarez is the subject of interest from English Premier League side Liverpool, who have been working overtime to try and sign the Uruguayan this month. So far however, Suarez remains an Ajax player.

But while the Amsterdam side are keen to keep hold of Suarez, declaring they will only allow him to leave the Eredivisie if Liverpool offer a very substantial amount of money, they are still eyeing replacements. So far that situation has failed to materialise though, with Liverpool refusing to meet Ajax’s €25M asking price.

However, with Liverpool still trying to close a deal, Ajax want to be ready in case there is the need to replace their 23-year-old striker, and have identified Heerenveen’s young Dutch striker Bas Dost, Stoke City’s Eidur Gudjohnsen and Liverpool’s Ryan Babel.

21-year-old Dost, a Holland Under-21 international, would be Ajax coach Frank de Boer’s preferred option, though both Gudjohnsen and Babel are considered serious possibilities.
