Panathinaikos coach Jesualdo Ferreira believes his side are still contenders for the Super League title despite seeing the gap between the Greens and their rivals Olympiacos increase to seven points.

Ferreira’s side could only manage a 1-1 draw with Panionios yesterday, with on loan Olympiacos striker Kostas Mitroglu doing the damage. A strike from the spot by Djibril Cisse did not spark a Green revival and with Olympiacos having won 1-0 at Asteras Tripolis, Thyrlos increased their lead to seven points.

But Ferreira does not believe the game is up.

"We lost two points, but we are still contenders", said the Panathinaikos boss. "It’s harder now, but as champions and the great team that we are, we must continue to play to win. It’s mathematically more difficult, but we must continue to believe."
