Liverpool are continuing talks with Ajax over the signing of Luis Suarez as the end of the January transfer window looms. The Dutch club’s coach Frank de Boer has already stated he wants any deal done quickly so he has time to sign a replacement for the Uruguayan, meaning the next few days will be crucial.

The Premier League giants had a bid of €15M rejected by Ajax, even though the Reds offered to pay the fee in one lump sum and not in installments as is usually the case. Now Liverpool’s sporting director Damien Comolli has travelled to Amsterdam to continue negotiations with Ajax and the indications are that the Frenchman will offer €20M for Suarez. Such an amount might be enough to persuade Ajax to deal.

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish is thought keen to add Suarez to his squad, not just for his on the pitch impact, but also for the message it will send out about the Anfield side’s determination to reclaim their place in the top four of English football.

Ajax may still insist Ryan Babel forms part of any deal and the Dutchman has held off making a decision over a potential move to Bundesliga side Hoffenheim to leave the door open for a possible switch to his old club.
