AC Milan have swooped to sign veteran Dutch midfielder Mark van Bommel from Bayern Munich. The 33-year-old was out of contract at the end of the season and the Allianz Arena side have terminated his contract early.

Van Bommel has signed a deal running until the end of the current campaign with Milan. In that time he will hope to help the Rossoneri to the Serie A title, establish himself in the starting eleven and earn a new contract.

The tough-tackling midfielder had been heavily linked with a move to Wolfsburg, with the deal looking all but done just days ago. A switch to Italy suits Bayern Munich though, who prefer to see the player head abroad. Van Bommel joins countryman Urby Emanuelson at Milan in the current transfer window, the Dutch winger inking a move from Ajax yesterday.
