If Chelsea can bag the signature of David Luiz from Benfica then that could pave the way for Alex to leave the Stamford Bridge club.

Reports from Italy suggest AC Milan are keen on the former PSV Eindhoven stopper, but Chelsea will only consider allowing the 28-year-old to head to Italy if they can sign Luiz.

Milan are looking to inject some strength into their defensive ranks and believe Alex could well fit the bill. The Brazilian has failed to establish himself as a first choice option at Stamford Bridge and a move to Italy may well appeal.

Having allowed American centre back Oguchi Onyewu to join FC Twente on loan for the rest of the season, the Rossoneri are in need of a further defensive addition, though understand that Alex may only become available if Chelsea can iron out their proposed move for Luiz.
