Chelsea are hoping to snap up young defender David Luiz from Benfica after Blues manager Carlo Ancelotti admitted after his side’s 4-0 destruction of Bolton that they are working on a deal.

Luiz has impressed with Benfica, winning fans across Europe, with Manchester City and Real Madrid also interested in the 23-year-old’s services.

"He is the only signing we are tying to make, but if it’s not possible nothing changes", confirmed Ancelotti. "He is a very good young player, but we have not agreed anything."

Benfica are keen not to lose Luiz in the current transfer window, although they could be tempted by a bid of €25M. Chelsea are thought to have offered closer to €20M for the Brazilian as they look to bolster their defence.
