Dutch giants Ajax have confirmed that they have accepted a bid from Liverpool for their Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez. The Premier League club have been negotiating to try and buy the 24-year-old for the past ten days, but an initial offer of some €15M was rejected by Ajax, with the Eredivisie outfit demanding a "respectable" bid was made.

Now Ajax have agreed to part with their star forward for a fee of €26.5M which, while a drop from their original asking price of €30M, does mean Liverpool have had to substantially increase their offer.

Suarez will now travel to England to undergo and medical and agree personal terms at Anfield. The signing is a statement of intent from Liverpool's new owners New England Sports Ventures and also bolsters manager Kenny Dalglish's attacking options.

The Uruguayan was under contract with Ajax until 2013.
