Chelsea are closing on a deal to sign David Luiz from Benfica after both clubs made moves to bring them nearer together.

The Portuguese giants had been firm in their insistence that they want €30M for the Brazilian defender, however Chelsea were sticking at an offer of €25M. Now Benfica’s president Luis Filipe Vieira has dropped his asking price by €2M down to €28M and the signs are that the Premier League side have met this valuation.

Benfica are searching for a higher price in part because they will only be due 75% of the transfer fee for the player, with the remainder going to the Benfica Stars Fund, which acts as an investment firm. Given this, the Portuguese believe it necessary that Chelsea must pay €28M.

All the signs are that the deal will be completed quickly, with Chelsea paying the fee required to snap up the Brazilian.
