Liverpool star Steven Gerrard has praised the impact Kenny Dalglish has had on the club, commenting that now the players are smiling again. Under Dalglish’s predecessor Roy Hodgson an air of gloom seemed to have enveloped Anfield, but according to Gerrard, that has completely disappeared.

"The manager has brought the whole club together, the players and the supporters", Gerrard told Liverpool’s official site.

"Smiles are back on the lads’ faces in training and the new manager has come in and given everyone a lift.

"That’s what this club is all about – sticking together and fighting for results. So although we weren’t terrific against Fulham, I thought we showed great determination and a terrific desire, and sometimes that’s what’s needed."

Dalglish has worked his magic not just off the pitch, but on it too, as Liverpool have risen up to seventh in the Premier League. Europe is a real possibility and there are those around Merseyside who believe a top four finish and Champions League football should itself not be given up on yet. And Gerrard himself thinks that lots of points are up for grabs.

"We are on a bit of a run now, so we need to keep that going and there are still a lot of points to play for."
