Real Madrid have been shaken by their loss away to Osasuna last night (1-0), a defeat which leaves them a considerable seven points behind league leaders and bitter rivals Barcelona.

Defeat at Osasuna was unexpected and made worse by Barcelona having won 3-0 at Hercules on Saturday. However, despite the task which now lies ahead of them, Los Blancos have vowed to keep on fighting and not give up on the Spanish title just yet.

"Nobody ever expects to lose", said Real Madrid sporting director Jorge Valdano. "The result is very hard to take, but not definitive. We will fight until the last breath."

And midfielder Xabi Alonso backed up Valdano’s words.

"The gap [with Barcelona] increases, but there is still much to play for. We were on a good run so far, and we do not give up. We know what we have to do."
