Bolton Wanderers moved quickly to complete a loan deal for Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge yesterday after it became clear the player would not form part of Fernando Torres’ switch from Liverpool to Stamford Bridge.

The move delighted boss Owen Coyle who, while refusing earlier in the day to be drawn on speculation he was closing on Sturridge, did hail the striker as "one of the best, if not the best, young strikers in the Premier League."

Sturridge himself is looking forward to getting games under his belt at the Reebok Stadium, explaining that was why he moved north.

"Bolton offer the opportunity to play regular football. It’s all about helping them move up the table now, and I can’t wait to get started."
