New Liverpool striker Andy Carroll has revealed that he chose to join the club for a new challenge and he wants to experience the same fan connection as at previous side Newcastle United. Carroll cost Liverpool a fee in excess of £35M and having been handed the number 9 jersey is certain to be judged against the now departed Fernando Torres.

"Liverpool’s an instant draw, it’s massive", said Carroll when questioned about the move. "Kenny Dalglish is a great bloke, a fantastic manager and I’m looking forward to working with him.

"Newcastle was my hometown and I loved it and the fans. That’s what I’ve come here for – a new challenge and hope I can do the same here. I want to love the fans as I did up there."

Carroll is currently out through injury and not expected to play any part in Liverpool’s trip to face Chelsea on Sunday. However, excitement around Anfield is growing as fans wait to see their new number 9 take to the pitch alongside fellow January arrival Luis Suarez.
