Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho stated his desire to finish top of La Liga after Los Blancos defeated Real Sociedad 4-1 last night. Mourinho’s side are still some seven points behind Barcelona, but can look forward to a Clasico still to play at the Bernabeu which could cut the Catalans’ lead to just four.
"Of all the championships I played the full season with my team (FC Porto, Chelsea and Inter). I finished second only once, during my third season at Chelsea. I am here to finish first, but if I finish second, what’s going on? Nothing", said Mourinho.
The Portuguese then went on to say that for him the most important thing if Real Madrid cannot win the league is to make sure Barcelona have to fight to take it – Los Blancos must not make it easy for their rivals.
"The most important thing is not to gift the championship."
