French defender Philippe Mexes has indicated that he is ready to extend his contract with Roma.

The 28-year-old’s current deal with the capital club comes to an end this summer, and despite being widely expected to leave on a free transfer, Mexes did tell Roma what it would take for him to sign a new contract.

And that amount was €5M per year, a figure which has shocked the Serie A club. With the player’s contract coming to an end in June, Roma must now either meet Mexes’ demands or risk losing the Frenchman without a fee in the summer.
