Norwegian full back John Arne Riise has emerged as a target for Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen, and the player’s current club Roma may well be open to letting him leave.

Werder are looking closely at adding a left back who can also offer an attacking outlet and Riise has jumped towards the top of their list.

The 30-year-old joined Roma in 2008 from Premier League side Liverpool, where he had spent seven years, winning a number of trophies, including the UEFA Champions League in 2005. And although Riise has not picked up silverware in Italy, he has given Roma an extra attacking edge on the left flank.

Now the capital club may be willing to allow Werder Bremen to end the Norwegian’s three-year stint in Serie A however, but the attitude of Riise himself to a switch remains unknown.
