Legendary striker Ronaldo may be preparing to hang up his boots according to reports from Brazil. The 34-year-old is rumoured to have called a press conference for 12:30pm (Brazilian time) and is expected to announce that he is retiring from the game.

Ronaldo is under contract with Corinthians and was looking forward to helping the club celebrate their centenary year in style by playing a big part in winning the Copa Libertadores. However, the Brazilian giants suffered a shock exit in the preliminary stage, with Ronaldo being blamed by large sections of the club’s support for a below-par display.

"Enough, Ronaldo" and "marketing boy" was scrawled on the club’s HQ after the defeat and the former Barcelona and Inter striker is believed to have quickly fallen out of love with the idea of continuing through the 2011 campaign.

"It’s a very personal decision, but it could be [that he retires]", said Ronaldo’s manager said to a reporter on the telephone.
