Arsenal’s search for an established goalkeeper is continuing with reports in Spain linking the Gunners with a swoop for Villarreal’s Diego Lopez.

The Spanish keeper has clocked up the appearances for the Yellow Submarine since joining the club from Real Madrid in 2007 and even picked up a senior Spain cap in 2009.

Having helped Villarreal continue to fight at the top of La Liga, Lopez has seen his stock continue to rise and Arsene Wenger has taken note of his undoubted progress.

Under contract with his La Liga side until 2014, Lopez would not come cheap if Arsenal were to firm up their interest and Villarreal would not want to lose the 29-year-old, whose best days are considered ahead of him.

Nevertheless, a big-money bid in the summer could cause Villarreal to think seriously about letting Lopez head to the Emirates.
